Random Thoughts, Top 10 Best Value Games and Civ 2 Test of Time

I was having a look at what I actually installed when I loaded up Civilization Chronicles and to my delight I found Civ 2: Test of Time, which is a range of modded Civ games based on the Civ 2 engine. My instant favourite was the Fantasy mod as one of my all time favourite turn-based strategy games is Master of Magic, a 4X classic as I've said a number of times on this blog. Combining fantasy with the greatest 4X engine in history equals a new time destroyer in my game collection!! Just what I need in the lead up to Civilization Revolutions which arrives June 6 for Xbox 360 and PS3. I'll be playing it on the Xbox 360... Xbox Live > PSN by a wide margin

Have you seen the Don King Presents Prizefighter trailer? This could be another launch in Winter to stay on top of as just the training modes look awesome. Right click HERE to download. For some stupid reason it won't play when I embed it so I'm being lazy.

IGN UK has got this absolutely right....

Mario Kart SNES > Mario Kart DS > Mario Kart GBA > Mario Kart Double Dash > Mario Kart 64

Sorry but Mario Kart 64 was not even close to the orginal goodness of the SNES classic. Double Dash was a massive disappointment too so its great to see that it looks like Mario Kart has got back to its exceptional roots. About time I say!!  I know there is that silly wheel thing for the WiiMote but I will be playing this with the Nunchuk as if I could I'd drive a car with a controller... scratch that... an Xbox 360 controller. Think Tomorrow Never Dies but substitute the phone for a wireless 360 controller. I was THIS close to buying a second hand BMW 750iL but got talked out of it due to the uber-expensive parts.... still a cool car anyway. For those wondering I went with a Monaro instead.

The van is still going strong!!

Oscar visited today and he still rules. Don't you love ex-girlfirends who need help with their IT dramas?!? Just stirring Katie Laughing She is still a Burnout Revenge guru!!

Thanks to Stu and my sis I now have the 'flu. If it gets worse I will have to bail on DarkLAN this weekend... Frown

Stu and I have been playing a bit of Tiger Woods 08 of late. As my character is maxed out I am really enjoying crunching drives well over 300m... just like real life Laughing Actually the only thing accurately portrayed on my character is my large jaw.

If you like wrestling make sure you subscribe to JR's Bar-B-Q Blog. It's my favourite blog on the internet as JR tells it straight with honesty and no BS, without the arrogance often found out on the 'net. Next time I'm in the US I think I will make the trip to Oklahoma just to try his world renowned Ribs!! I constantly try to lift my game to match his excellent standards so keep the feedback coming. All (sensible) comments are welcome.

One thing I hear all the time is whinging and moaning about the length of games to complete, specifically their campaign mode. Now doing some simple maths, if you compare it to buying a DVD @ $20 which gives you at best 3 hours of entertainment plus extras barely anyone watches, you'd expect a gaming to deliver 15 hours of play time. Should games be given additional credit as they are interactive? To me, it's about quality. I'll take Gears of War on Insane, Call of Duty 4 on Veteran or Halo 3 on Legendary over pretty much any DVD I own and those who say these games are too short... stop playing them on Easy Tongue out

For random interest sake my favourite DVD is The Great Escap... yep, you started humming the music didn't you?

On the whole value for money thing, I thought I'd put together my Top 10 Xbox 360 games in terms of value for money... if I'd actually paid for any of them hehe. I've estimate the amount of game time spent on them between Stu and I as well as our thoughts about how good the game actually was to come up with the rankings. Now I'm looking for your contributions and I have three XBLA games to give away to the best three Top 10 I get in the comments section. I'll edit this to put what games they are later on (can't remember right now)

Pidgeo and Stu's Top 10 Best Value games for Xbox 360

Honourable Mention: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, Crackdown, GRAW, GRAW2, Smackdown vs RAW 2007 and 2008

10. Fight Night 3 (20hrs)

The campaign was short, and the bouts between mates even shorter as I'm not very good ("I AM GOOD"... Happy Gilmore rules) but due to the nature of boxing this is to be expected. Probably the first game that really showed what next-gen was all about... as Perfect Dark Zero sure as hell didn't!! Fight Night still gets a play on nights with adult beverages being consumed!!

9. Gears of War (25hrs)

Yes the campaign was short but on Insane it was just awesome and we both are waiting for more later this year with the second installment. There is next gen and there is Gears of War. The PS3 wishes it could do something as nice as Gears (yes I know there is a game using the same engine but its not close to GoW) Good multiplayer added to the mayhem... but let's be honest Stu and I aren't that great at it!! Watching the elite play at WCG was a sight to behold.

7. Puzzle Quest (ummm...)

Let's combine an RPG with a Tetris style puzzler.... a great way to ruin my productivity for three months!!

6. Call of Duty 2 (50hrs)

Superb. Just superb.

So many games try to do WWII but none are even close to COD2 on Veteran. Pure hardcore gaming at its finest. Stu and I still shudder at the Normandy landing scene.

5. FIFA 07 (200hrs)

FIFA 06 was an abomination on 360, World Cup 06 was good but FIFA 07 got the most time of the three. It showed glimpses of greatness but due to the sheer amount of playtime it has to be on this list.

4. Halo 3 (100hrs)

It's the end of an era with more of the excellent multiplayer that made it a household name... who would have thought a certain Infinity Ward game would overshadow it on Live?!?! Still, we got some excellent value out of the Spartan helmet

3. Oblivion (550hrs)

We keep asking ourselves.... when is the next Elder Scrolls game coming?? This is the epitome of what a WRPG should be which means some hate it, but those who enjoy what RPG's are all about loved this and lost similar amounts of time to it as we did.

2. Call of Duty 4 (750hrs)

Admittedly Stu accounts for about 700 of those and not because I dislike it at all. I've played through the campaign a number of times and think the multiplayer is glorious... Stu just plays it ALL the time!! Plus unless I'm playing with him, Barnzey and/or Atomic HellCat its not as much fun... because I suck!!

1. FIFA 08 (Too bloody many)

Do I really need to explain this one? We're now 33-28 my way and most of those are 40 minute games. On top of that we've both played numerous managerial seasons.... bring on '09!! One quick question... what happened to the long shot control that was suppose to arrive in '08? Maybe I should be thankful considering Stu has Steven Gerrard.... for those who need a lesson of his greatness watch this clip.

Well there you have it. Get those lists in and I will announce winners on Friday.

Hey pidgeo

nice XBLA comp!

I would have to say I think Mass Effect is the best value for money.

Because.. it doesn't rely on replaying the exact same game over and over again, for more enjoyment.

Mass Effect is very close to a "choose your own" adventure game. With different events and story moments occurring each time you play it, depending on your speed, attitude and alignment (good or evil equivalent)

So each time you play can be completely different, and the good news is, the player knows this as they play through the game on their first run. Thinking "what if I didn't punch the journalist on live tv...".

So Mass Effect doesn't use that suckery to get players to do a second run by saying "there are different endings". Well yes there are, but every single event and conversation can have 3 or 4 different outcomes, which are all result in a completely different outcome - unlike Fable where whatever you did the events were still the same, just had a different wording.

On top of that, to add more a refreshing feeling to gamers on their second run, they can play as both genders. This helps to even further differentiate the experience the player had on their first run through, and their second.

The player can also choose different squad members, choose to have a relationship with a different person. It can all be so different from your initial expereience, the game basically demands a 2nd or 3rd playthrough soon as you see the credits rolling on your first go. While the main story is still basically the same, there are variations, but the story is so brilliant, you wont mind watching it again, because the emotional build up the game provides, just makes buying Mass Effect Worth it.

You have to admit, for a Single Player only game.. Mass Effect got it right.

How did I forget Mass Effect?!?!

I love that game!! Now I wouldn't put it up there on value for money as say FIFA and Oblivion as I only gave it one playthrough but what a playthrough it was.

Sheer BioWare genius

Hey Pidgeo, before I name my top ten, I have something to say. COME TO DARKLAN!!!!!!! lol mask and all if you have to Smile

Ok on to business how about this one to create some debate.

.....My Top 10 RPG's of All Time.....
disclaimer: these top 10 are subject to change depending on my mood Smile

10. Lost Odyssey: The premier Japanese RPG on Xbox 360, created by Legendary Final Fantasy director Hironobu Sakaguchi. 4 discs of gameplay, beautiful graphics and a memorable score gives this game a spot on my top 10 list.

9. Lufia II: This JRPG for the snes had an amazing story which really set it apart from the abundant of RPG’s out at the time. The world was being overrun by all powerful beings, the Sinistrals, you and your companions are charged with putting an end to this threat. On a side note, it has some of the hardest puzzles ever conceived for a game.

8. Wild Arms: A strange blend of the RPG genre in a Western American setting. Coming out in 1998 for the PS1, it had another strange feature which was a 2D position in the world but once you encountered an enemy it switched to a 3D perspective. If you still have a PS1, get this classic game.

7. Oblivion: The first game on the 360 where my jaw literally dropped. After stepping out of the sewers, I understood that the “Next Gen” system was finally here. Calling it a massive game is an understatement, there is so much to do in this game that playing for 300+ hours is quite normal. With the various expansions it’s a must have for any RPG fan.

6. Final Fantasy X: This FF game divided the JRPG fans in half, you either loved it or hated it, I obviously loved it ☺. The first FF game to include voice acting, it added a whole new level of immersion. The story was dynamic, often taking unexpected turns when you thought you had figured it out. It also has arguably the BEST ending in a videogame ever, make sure you have tissues in hand.

5. Zelda: Wind Waker: Their was certainly a lot of controversy when the visual style of the Zelda game on GameCube was shown. The cell shaded graphics though offered something which Zelda fans didn’t expect, it gave link an unprecedented amount of facial expression. The world map was gigantic, sailing from island to island was a joy and as usual it had that magic Zelda feel.

4. Terranigma: An amazing snes RPG which was never released in the States (god that feels good to say that). It took a top down perspective and instead of the usual turn based combat it had an action based battle system. The story was brilliant, you unlocked various stages in evolution at different points in the game, I won’t say anymore. PIDGEO have you played it yet? ☺

3. Final Fantasy 8: Whilst most claim FF7 was the pinnacle of the FF series, A few of us out their think that 8 takes the cake (Shadow Wave included). It was a massive leap in graphics for the PS1, the characters were interesting, story was great and in usual FF fashion their was heaps and heaps of side quests and secret items to collect. Get this game.

2. Zelda Ocarina of Time: Widely heralded as the greatest game of all time. An action RPG, Zelda: OoT was the first fully 3D Zelda experience and it truly was an experience. The characters were something special, seeing them in beautiful 3D was breathtaking. You were content to control the young link through the first 3rd of the game, but once you pulled out the Master Sword and became an Adult, I knew that this was a once in a lifetime experience. There are many ways to get this game now, pick one and GET IT.

…..Drumroll….

1. Secret of Mana: Though not typically regarded as the best RPG, I have had the most fun with this amazing game. You are a village outcast who manages to pull out the fabled sword of mana from its resting place within a stone. You must go on a journey which ranges from the snowy fields to the harsh deserts. With the ability to play 3 players co-op (with the Snes multi-tap) It is a RPG which you and two other friends can enjoy. If this ever comes out on the XBLA (wishful thinking) then I will literally jump for joy.

Their it is my own top 10 list.

P.S can you add this to the top 10 list page Pidgeo

Sith Lord Jim

1. Orange box
Pretty much an obvious choice. So much value crammed into this little disc of orange that its not funny. No seriously I spent like 5 minutes trying to come up with something funny to say about it and have got nothing. Team Fortress 2 is in my opinion the best multiplayer game around and I just wish there was a larger online community for it.

2. Halo 3
The variety available in this one is astonishing. Forge and a large variety of maps make this one some brilliant lasting fun. While the single player did not feel as fleshed out as the previous iterations, the multiplayer just keeps on growing on me.

3. Mass Effect
Say what you will about the corny storyline I really could not get enough of this game. There was so many different reasons to replay this one that it gave hours upon hours of enjoyment.

4. Gears of War
Second best multiplayer game ever. Really the only thing that prevents this from being my number one is the large amount of glitches that remain unpatched. Co-op on insane remains one of the best experience to be had over xbox live.

5. Halo 2
To this day I still play this one a ton. Pretty much all the same reasons as Halo 3, just minus the forge.

6. Lost Odyssey
Four disks... Enough said...

7. Dawn of War
Brilliant stratergy game featuring a large amount of very diverse armies. The need to take points to aquire resources means that players are forced to play aggresively, and keeps the action hectic.

8. Oblivion
A ton of side quests and a great story make this game last for a very long time. With the recent expansions even more time can be sunk into this epic game.

9. Burnout Paradise
Fast and frantic racing in an open world setting make this my favourite racing game. This game also has a stack of varied multiplayer challenges for when you get sick of racing by yourself.

10. Bully.
Typical Rockstar humour, an abundance of missions, and challenging mini-games make this one a decently lengthed game that is sure to keep you coming back for more.

DarkArmada

You asked for it and I'm going to tell you the....

TOP 10 GAMES YOU'LL WISH YOU NEVER PLAYED

You know those games that you pick up to play for a quick 15 minute stint and before you know it, it's dark outside? Yeah, these games Laughing

10. Halo 2 (Xbox) - Yes I know, not what you'd expect on a list of super addictive games that you wish you'd never played, but seriously. Take a cup of Halo 3, add a mate, a case of beer and stir. Guaranteed you'll be online into the wee hours of the morning.

9. World of Warcraft (PC) - I think this one is a given, I'm lucky that I escaped it's wretched claws before addiction truly set in, although many have succumb to it's influence...

8. The Sims (PC) - Yes yes, stop laughing. Thank you. Deny it all you might, The Sims wasn't voted on of (if not the) best game of all time. With a few expansions you'll be generating Sims all night long!

7. Oblivion (Xbox360) - Just one more quest, just one more quest. Oh, I can make it to LVL 34 soon, just one more level. Oh wait, 8am! Dammit. Yes, Oblivion is one game that sucks you in. We're just lucky that you couldn't get online!

6. Mass Effect (Xbox360) - Just like the KOTOR's before it, Mass Effect delivered in spades and held me close to it's chest. With a deep story and many a planet to visit, there is never enough time for Mass Effect.

5. Tetris (Gameboy) - I bet you've got the theme song in your head right now. See, you're not even playing the game and already you're longing for it, wanting to hold it in your hand. Do it, but do it with caution. My recommendation? Use Alkaline AA batteries so you're forced to stop when they die... Laughing

4. FreeCol (PC) - As a member of "The List" here for recommending this game to Pidgeo, it goes without saying that this Freeware remake of the classic Colonization will take you back to "the New World" and keep you there with it's classic yet complex gameplay.

3. Puzzle Quest (Xbox360XBLA) - Just read my review @ XboxOZ360, Puzzle Quest is dangerously addictive, you've been warned. You know you've been playing this game too long when closing your eyes opens a door way to a kaleidoscope of colourful gems.

2. Civilization II/IV (PC) - I don't know how many hours I've spent on these mind blowing titles and frankly, I don't want to know. Sid Meier is a genius and Civilization Revolutions cannot come quick enough. Believe me, if you haven't played these games, please do so. Just make sure you've cleared the weeks off after you start or if not, put on your most convincing sick voice the next day, cause you're gonna need it!

1. OpenTTD / Transport Tycoon Deluxe (PC) - A week ago I wouldn't have put this game at #1 however, April 1st brought with it the latest full build of OpenTTD which, if I can say this, has improved upon and already amazing game by inifinity squared. If you have TTD already and have not played OpenTTD, do it, DO IT NOW. If you think you've played TTD, you aint seen nothing yet. Do yourself a favour (or not) and get it now!

Solid II Sn4ke au

Solid II Sn4ke

10. Small Arms: (5-10 hours)
Small Arms is as close to Super Smash Bros as us X-boxers will ever get. Sure, it doesn't feature Mario or Luigi or anyone you have ever heard of but...you can't say that it isn't pure fun!

09. UNO: (every time my mates come over we load up UNO...so...a lot)
Who can honestly say that UNO is the best Arcade game. Sure there are games that are better quality or more in depth but come on...it is the best arcade game to ever be released on Live. You and four other players from around the world get tp party in a room where anything and everything will happen, why is this game G? I will never know...

08. Crackdown: (15-20 hours)
Crackdown is not a perfect game, it gets repetitive, way too short, characters look like losers and it is way too easy, but hey, you cannot say that it isn't addictive as hell! I would have played this game for so long, downloaded extra content, found agility orbs...but when you have one agility orb left, and your save file gets corrupted...you have to be pretty angry...

07. Assassins Creed: (15-20 hours)
For some reason, this game got a pretty bad name for itself not too long after its release. It was called repetitive, slow, boring, shit...I think that there is nothing wrong with this game. It is exactly as long as any game should be, the fighting style is not repetitive in any way, but...not being able to skip cut scenes after you have seen them is a little boring, eh? The game takes place in the future (I know, wtf, right?) and you go on a time machine type thing called an Animus, the machine takes you back in time and you conduct research to see what life was really like back then. The future plot interweaves with the assassin plot but the best thing about this game is clearly the fact that you are an awesome assassin!

06. The Orange Box: (15-20 hours)
When a game manages to fit five games on one disc, they are normally either shit, or really old. In this case they are not shit, and they are brand new! The game has the entire Half Life 2 series, Team Fortress 2 and Portal, 5 games that will make you laugh, cry, and laugh again. It is an odd mix, putting in 3 extremely serious games, one really funny game (so funny that there is no way to explain how funny it is) and one game that is Counter Strike meets Thirteen. The balance is incredibly well done and it is guaranteed not to leave your disc tray for quite a while! This game is a perfect example of 'Don't judge a book by its cover' because lets face it, the cover is crap!

05. Stranglehold: (20-30 hours)
It was a random purchase, I'll admit, I didn't know why I picked this game up, but it is a perfect example of 'Judge a book by its cover'. I went to EB, picked up the game, looked at the cover, looked awesome, the guy at the counter said, 'oh that game, it's meant to be like Max Payne or something', I smiled, I bought it, and I never regretted it. You are a Japanese cop who is ready to embark on a journey to save a kidnapped girl, sound cliche? Well it is, and that is awesome!

04. Call of Duty 4: (50 hours)
Finally breaking away from the plague of World War II games that have been done to death, COD4 takes a leap into the extremely dangerous world of modern warfare. The game is less of a war game and seems more like a tactical shooter along the lines of Rainbow Six, this is definitely a good thing because the world is so realistic, it will swallow you whole as you are immersed in a world that is so scary, and the best thing is, you don't know how it will end, until you finish the game (unlike COD1/2/3)!

03. Guitar Hero II: (100's of hours, mastering Expert)
The first time I ever played a Guitar Hero game, was very embarrassing. I was extremely pumped because I had heard so much about it and seen so many videos and it looked so fun, then I put in the disc, plugged in the guitar, loaded up Iron Man on easy, looked behind and saw that everyone was watching, and I failed. I was hideously bad, and I mean so bad that I didn't even know I had to strum, I thought I just pressed the coloured buttons. Then my mate picked it up and did Bark at the Moon on expert, he blew me out of the water and I looked like a complete loser. But now, I am a pro, Bark at the Moon, ha, that's easy! Gimme Freebird any day!

02. Halo 3: (100's of hours, mainly in Forge)
Where do I start? There are so many different ways to play this game that it pretty much would satisfy any shooter fan. There are (now) seventeen awesome maps that unlike some games are fully original, not ports from the single player missions. Not only do the maps show a great amount of realism and detail but they also are an absolute blast to kill your mates on. Sure playing Halo 3 is fun but, god...nothing is as fun as making your own maps to kill your mates on, because you know every little nook and cranny in there so you can rush straight to the bazooka and obliterate them!

01. Gears of War: (Too long, I'll admit...)
Gears is to put it simply, the best online game ever. Any Aussie with half a brain knows that Warzone, nine rounds is your ticket to fun for hours on end. The game features kick ass guns, mean as character designs and to top it all off, some of the best graphics that I have ever seen. I have played this stop and start ever since Christmas but I still don't have Seriously, I am only one thousand kills away but this is the kind of game that I will keep playing even once I have one hundred thousand kills! Easily the best game to ever be released on the 360, can't wait for Gears 2!

Shadow Wave

Pidgeo! I thought it was just one game, hence why i only talked about one above lol, ill add my list now.... Enjoy! REALLY SORRY ABOUT THE WORD COUNT! I CANT HELP IT! 

wasn't sure if this was 360 only, or not so i did a 360 list!

Shadow Wave’s Top 10 360 games list!

10) Hitman: Blood Money (25+ hours)
What a fantastic game, besides having achievements for beaten each of its 5 or 6 difficulty levels, there were so many different ways and combinations of assassinating each target – ie snipe from distance, poison their drink etc! Or you could forget all the planning and just run and gun your way through if you’re feeling up to it!

9) Splinter Cell: Double Agent (25+ hours)
This game amazed me when I first played, they got the character models looking brilliant. Lets not forget the lighting that comes into all Splinter Cell games. Game play in this game can last a while, 3 difficulties, each with different ways to do them, and different outcomes, as you align yourself with the JBA or the NSA. Unfortunately the game wants you to be good, giving you bonus levels if you align primarily with the NSA. But both different stories are great. I’ve played through this game a lot and I keep coming back to it, as stealth games are just so much fun. Multiplayer is also a blast! The emotional gripping and excitement feelings you get while you wait for the perfect time to run into hack a computer while mercenaries are running around searching for you, it’s just a huge thrill.

8)Bioshock (35+ hours)
its not just replay ability or multiplayer that determines its value, it’s how long it lasts for! Bioshock has this one down pat, with 20+ hours for a first play through on Normal, is certainly worthy a purchase, and with the 20 hours, is a unique experience that’s unlike anything else currently out, you sometimes have to wonder if the produces on games, are crazy or on some form of “drug”. Because Bioshock’s idea is amazing! First time you fight a Big Daddy is an amazing frantic experience, as you’re so underpowered, but later they are a breeze to kill, which helps show the progress you have made. While Rapture is falling apart, it’s a beautiful thing to look at.

7) Gears of War (40+ hours)
When Gears of War first came out, I played Single Player to death, I’ve beaten it over 10 times, through each difficulty, I even did the entire game by myself in Insane – no easy feat. All the play throughs must have added to a extremely high amount of hours of play time just by myself. I took a long break from it, until a few months ago when Sheepy and Optimus Danny managed to somehow get my sucked into Multiplayer which prior to that I was quite negative about doing. Somehow I’m now addicted and playing it a lot, it’s a lot of fun, and its a game of skill not just the first person to start shooting will win. So yeah im loving multiplayer, and it’s definitely good value for money. Besides everyone will have to play this game before Gears of War 2, prepare for a second wave of GoW players!

6) The Orange Box (50 hours)
Value your for money? 5 games in one! Of course it is! 20 hours for Half life 1, 4 hours for Episode 1, 6 hours for Episode 2, 3 hours for portal, countless hours for Team Fortress. That’s already almost beating all the other games I’ve listed on just a first play through. And its not just pathetic games stuck together, they are all award winning fantastic games! Need i say more? This game set has a game for almost anyone in the family, and is just so appealing. I’ve played through each game twice, and put about 10 hours into Team Fortress – it’s a truly worthy game, pity I had played a third of it on PC many times before.

5) Enchanted Arms
Enchanted Arms is the black horse of the RPG’s for the 360, and with its unqiue battle system and hard difficulty many players gave up, or didn’t bother a purchase. But it’s a brilliant game, with a well thought out story, and it has variety for having a unique battle system. This game has A LOT of replay ability as you can use over 100 different “golems” basically party members, in your combat group, of course you will only use a handful over the game, and therefore players can come back and play every single battle in the game with completely different characters, with a completely different strategy. I’ve spent about 70 hours on this game, really fantastic. Let’s not forget you can go to the casino and gamble!

4) Lost Odyssey (30 hours and counting)
Another long RPG game like Enchanted Arms, this game is superior, perhaps not as innovative, but it has many more cut scenes and therefore helps flesh out the story and break up some of those annoying random battles. This game is very enjoyable even with a couple of annoying bits. Its dream sequences in the style of a book, and impressive music that gets me emotional every time I hear it, and the impressive visuals what will amaze you in some places. It will last 70+ hours and is truly another fantastic 1st experience. Oh let’s not forget, there are veiny breasts in there to...  how did I forget to mention that...

3) Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion (100+ hours)
Another RPG at least this one is Western RPG. This game is in the largest World ever besides those seen in perhaps.. a MMO. But for a Single Player game it’s amazing, all detailed with grass, and tree’s with hundreds of hidden secrets to be discovered by exploring. You don’t have to follow the main story, you could forget that and spend hours on end just doing side quests and helping the towns people. I have put in about 100 hours into this game, probably more on consecutive play throughs. This game has a decent amount of replay ability as you probably missed a huge amount of side quests on your way through, and you can play as a different race and class. – giving different experiences, dialogues and stories. A truly epic game.

2) Halo 3 (100+ hours)
What can I say, I don’t think game matters if its good value for money, its Halo and therefore its a purchase, well that’s for most people. But the good news is that it is good value for money, as besides the single player game, you can muck around in the theatre, and make your Multiplayer map variants in forge, and then spend hours on end playing multiplayer. I’ve played through Halo 3 already about 20 times in all difficulties online and offline, each with a different experience. It’s a amazing game, and the multiplayer never gets old thanks to Bungies constant updated playlists to always vary the stuff we play on, so it never gets overly stale. Good job Bungie!

1) Mass Effect (100 hours) Number 1 deserves more text!

I would have to say I think Mass Effect is the best value for money for the average Single Player offline people. And online of course too!

Because.. it doesn't rely on replaying the exact same game over and over again, for more enjoyment.

The player can also choose different squad members; choose to have a relationship with a different person. It can all be so different from your initial experience, the game basically demands a 2nd or 3rd play through soon as you see the credits rolling on your first go. While the main story is still basically the same, there are variations, but the story is so brilliant, you won’t mind watching it again, because the emotional build up the game provides, just makes buying Mass Effect Worth it.

You have to admit, for a Single Player only game.. Mass Effect got it right.
Congrats Mass Effect you got the top of my list!

Good comp idea mate!

Alrighty I'll kick it off with:

10) Halo: Combat Evolved - This was my first ever Xbox game and from the moment i picked up the controller and started playing this, i was shocked at how good a game could be. So many hours was spent on this game in multiplayer alone with my mates, for about a good year and half all we used to do is play this game with me usually winning :p. Campaign was just awesome and i played through it so any times that i lost count with about 5-7 times on legendary.

9) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - This was great on the Ps2, but when i heard about it coming out in the Double Pack with Grand Theft Auto 3 i was so happy! I played this game all the way to get to 100% completion. This game was a big winner for me in my eyes with endless hours of game play.

8) Age of Empires - I don't care what anyone else says, this game was great for it's time because it was a game of thinking. You would have 3 other types of Warriors around you or 7 if you wished. All you had to do was survive, the amount of hours i put into this game is unthinkable. My favourite moment of playing this was a 5 hour battle with 7 other team on the hardest difficulty and i was almost eliminated 4 times, luckily i had 4 villagers in random places along the map so they could save me haha. But yes such great memories from this game.

7) Super Smash Bros - Yes this game made me happy, laugh and cry all in the one game at times against friends. It was a game that you really had to be good at dominate against friends and all i can say is that i couldn't do that :p The innovation of using great characters from Nintendo and making them fight was just awesome! I played this game 10 hours straight once when i turned 11 years old and my mates came over for a birthday party, we loved this game so much!

6) Guitar Hero 3: Legends of rock - My first ever Guitar Hero game i have owned and i do not regret buying this at all. To be able to play some great songs electronically and nailing the notes to perfection makes you feel great on the inside. Failing a song isn't the best feeling but with the practice feature, it gives you hope that you can beat the song and succeed. The mulitplayer is a lot of fun for this game and i have had a number of battles online with friends and still do. This is a bench mark to all games coming out in future years.

5) Metal Gear Solid - The only reason why i plug my ps1 back into my CRT at times. This game was so much fun for what it was. The idea of being stealth and action at the same time was just utterly cool. The voice acting was cool, the cut scenes were awesome and the game play was just wicked! I played through this game about 3-4 times and i am really considering doing it again when i have time.

4)FIFA 08 - The only FIFA game i have come to love. I have been a PES fan but with the disappointment of no. 6, i thought i would try out 08 and boy did i make the right move. Me and my cousin always play this when we are at each others house because we just love the way it plays. The game looks spectacular and all i would do sometimes in the game is load it up and just play free roam for about an hour every time i play it. I'm still trying to figure out how to nail that scissor kick!

3) Gears of War - The innovation for this game won my vote and i was hooked on it! I played this nearly every night before Halo 3 came out and just the way the game played, looked and felt made me weak at the knees. Still today when i jump on from time to time, i don't get sick of Chainsawing people to death Tong With the arrival of no. 2 very shortly, i'm sure it will make my my top 10.

2) Call of Duty 4 - Infinity Ward wanted to ditch WWII for modern day combat and this is and will be an all time favourite for me. I have finished this game a number of times on Veteran and have played endless hours of multiplayer with friends and i can never get sick of this game

1) Halo 3: WOW! To send off the trilogy with a bang Bungie did. This game is my number 1 because i believe it just leaves the other Halo games in the dust. The Campaign for this game was awesome! 4 player co-op was a dream come true for me because playing this game with 3 great mates either over Xbox live or in real life just takes the cake for me. Multiplayer never gets boring with this game with new maps being released over time and the ability to create your own maps in forge is just brilliant! I still cannot get sick of beaten someone with like 5 seconds to go in a match coming from behind and just reviewing that match in saved films brings tears to my eyes! The music is just nearly the best part of this game because there so much emotion with it. I sometimes just boot up the game and stay in the menu just to listen to the music because i love it, infact thats what i am doing right now while typing this.

And that my friends is my Top 10.

10: Perfect Dark Zero (50 hours+)
A classic redone but dubbed as classic muddled up. Nevertheless in my opinion Perfect Dark Zero, one of my first leaps into the next gen of gaming was a sweet one indeed. Staying over at a mates place the night after a launch where I made a Live account and getting my first taste of achievements on Killcount on Urban. Easily one of the most memorable experiences that is fun split-screen, System Link and of course Live Smile

9: Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (50 hours+)
Blew all of my expectations as being an avid fan of the Ghost Recon series since its roots on the original Xbox. A huge leap from Ghost Recon: Summit Strike. Absolutely mind-blowing graphics that I still enjoy today and the only launch game that me and my mates take seriously when we have the chance to play System Link. Had the best single player experience in this game so far.

8. The Outfit (60 hours+)
A game that took the mickey out of WW2 as a serious game investment. Not the best WW2 game out there but probably the most fun and hilarious gaming experiences ever, the war would have been much easier if Tanks would drop right out of the sky. Underrated online, with innovative interface with rewarding achievements make this game a worthy competitor on my top 360 games.

7. Ace Combat 6 (2 hours....)
Ok I didn't play this game as much as I should have but it wasn't mine for beginners (I like to leech off my mates) and I was about to play Halo. However the fact that I picked this up and had to be forced to stop playing it was more than enough evidence that it is a superb game. Photo-realistic graphics and intense dogfighting, what more could a gamer ask for....

6. Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (150 hours+)
After playing the ever hypnotising Morrowind, it was a second nature to pick this game up. I was truly stunned when I was cast out in to the plains of Cyrodil and exposed to such wonderous landscape. I was overwhelmed and had no idea where to start. With an intense and epic story, with many side quests and a boot full of downloadable content. My only wish for this game is that it could be a bit higher.

5. Root Beer Tapper (XBLA) (150hours+)
A game that was mediocre too many and underlooked but being one of the few games that I have bought pure based on instinct had payed off. There was something alluring in this game and it was very addictive. Simple gameplay that has some variation each time you play it again. A steal at 400 Microsoft Points. My time on this game is justified as you will see my gamertag in the top 50 of the Arcade scores.

4. Halo 3 (80 hours+)
The game that defines a console possibly. Epic storyline, endless online options and the game that has brought a community together in many ways. This game has grown on me that much that I applied tactics I learnt in Halo to other games.... with varying success. Nonetheless, a classic game that should not be overlooked and with DLC that just keeps on coming in, what there not to love?

3. Mass Effect (5 hours)
Another game that I have sorely underlooked but will be getting into soon. My answer to Star Wars Kotor with all that dialogue, all the customization and the feeling it gave me when I shattered a Geth with that Sniper Rifle, it felt like tasting chocolate for the first time. Developed by Bioware, easily on the best developers to date gives all the more reasons to buy it. Even if you hate RPG's there has to be something that you love about Mass Effect.

2. Guitar Hero 3 (150 hours+)
A game that revolutionized what we could do with a gaming console. Plug a plastic guitar controller in and belt out the greatest hits with oddly coloured frets and a strum bar, is second to none. With a huge setlist there is something for everyone and fun with everyone. Proof that I love this game, is if you know anyone in Melbourne's West they will have surely heard me singing Anarchy In The U.K and Welcome To The Jungle loudly most nights.

1. Gears Of War ("I can't count this high" hours)
This. Is The. Game. This is the game that truly captivated me and made a huge lasting impression. Since launch I have not stopped playing it, my 360voice blog is probably sick of this game. 9 rounds Warzone as Snake mentioned is the best multiplayer experience you could have ever and it is still going strong. The only thing that will keep me from playing is Gears 2. Just waiting for my damn Seriously to pop up, 11,000 kills and still going.

While Everyone has done there most played, theres no way i can tell i have way to many games that ive played, even consisting all consoles, it would be impossible to judge. So ive decided to do my top 10 most wanted!

10. Banjo-Kazooie 3
While i would have this game up at number 1, the fact thats its being developed by RARE, along with Microsoft pushing and changing development plans for many of rares previous titles. Currently im just hoping it will come out, let alone be anything like the old games.

9. Battlefield Bad Company
Im personally addicted to Battlefield, and i believe DICE is one of the best studious around, however due to the lack of dedicated servers in Australia, im still yet convinced this is a much purchase game. Slapping down $90-100 without having perfect pings is going to be hard. However the frostbite engine is probably going to win me over.

8. Resident Evil 5
personally enjoyed RE4 on the gamecube, and was easily one of the best experienced ive had in a long time, along with being of the most heart Wrenching games to hit the cube. RE5 plans to bring a lot more, and im just dieing to see some footage.

7. Fable 2
Doggy! While i haven't fully been watching this, the aspect of full co-op in an RPG world, along with bring up a family and letting brad shot my wife is just too good to be true, lets just hope i don't call my girl katie^^

6. Saints Row 2
Many people rejected the first due to "coping" rockstars juggernauts, however i feel in love. While it wasn't the best experience i felt comfortable to just drive around and listen to prostitutes giving it to the customers in the back seat. Plus with mutli (laggy?), and some great voice acting, i thought it was a fantastic game.

5. Vigilante 8: Arcade
Remember this old gem? dreamcast/ps1/n64 good'ness, picking up rockets, selecting a car, using special moves it all came together in this game. While giant ants always pissed me off, the game had something i feel in love with and to this day not many people have successed. (full auto). Now with online, i must have this game!!

4. Gears of War 2
10,000 kills anyone? probably 300+ hours anyone? plus one of the best co-op experiences to date, do i need to say more?

3. Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
Mercenaries 1 was actually never on my radar, i never even heard of the game since i was only a cube owner, until reviews and the talk of the town brought me to its attention, scoring in the high 9's, i decided to check it out. what become with it was a desires to purchase to this date, ive still yet to purchase however im currently on hold to see if the new co-op enabled mercenaries 2 can fill in my void.

2. Prototype
Not much is known about this game, and still a long long long time away, the footage so far as been mind blowing. Crossing open world ed gameplay much like crackdown along with super powers and mutant powers, i can't wait to see what the makers of crackdown can do with this game.

1. Grand Theft Auto 4
durrr, do i really need to say how f'ing awesome this is? estimated at like 60 hours!!! plus multiplayer the only thing putting me off this game is Australia's stupid OFLC. Yet im still getting the limited edition at launch.

lets just hope brad is still around so i can co-op with him....*waits for gears of war on pc invite*

Well about 2 years back I managed to buy an N-Gage (yes, I know, stop laughing) along with quite a few games for a good price. It's really not as bad as people made out it was, sure the side talking was annoying, the buttons a bit cramped, and it had a crappy screen, but, actually yeah it was pretty bad design wise. But it did have some good games, so here's my Top 10.

Top 10 N-Gage Games:

10. Sonic N
So yeah, this was essentially a port of the GBA game, and the tall screen made it a bit hard to see what's in front of you, but hey, at least it's not a 3D Sonic right? Fun game either way.

9. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
I was pretty impressed by how well this seemed to translate to the small screen. Very close to the original version, which remains one of my favourites of the series.

8. Rayman 3
I spent quite a bit of time on this. This time it's not a port as it was a 2D side scroller, so it was different from the console versions. Great colourful sprites though, solid platforming.

7. Pandemonium
This was really fun, it was a 2.5D platformer (3D graphics, 2D gameplay). I think it was the first game I played on the system. Only real complaint was the lack of any background music.

6. Red Faction
Great 3D effects at the time. FPS controls were pretty good despite the limited buttons. I wish there were more FPS games on handhelds these days, lots of fun to be had here.

5. Super Monkey Ball
Who doesn't like a bit of monkey ball? Fun, addictive, probably one of the best fits for a mobile game. Good stuff.

4. Tomb Raider
This is basically a port of the original, which I loved playing on PC. It's slightly downgraded but the adventure remains the same. Great game.

3. Snakes
This game was actually free to download from the N-Gage site, but it really was a great game. It's sort of a sequel to Snake (you know, that mobile game, with the snake, and the dots, and the eating of said dots, yeah that one) but in some simple yet stylized 3D. Awesome update of the original game and something that could find a good home on XBLA.

2. System Rush
Featured similar type 3D graphics as Snakes, but was an awesome F-Zero clone racer. For a while this was the only game I played on the system. Gotta love the futuristic racers.

1. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Wow. I was sort of shocked to see how well this held up on the N-Gage. The graphics were probably the best on the system, the gameplay remained nearly as good as the console versions. The developers did a great job working around the limitations of the system, creating something that worked and played so well on what was basically a mobile phone. Really sort of a must have for the 10 or so people who owned an N-Gage.

The N-Gage did have a solid lineup of titles for the short time it was around. There are a couple of others not on the list that were fairly good as well. I sold it after a while since it sorta gave me headaches if I played too long, but I do still like the concept of a mobile phone/gaming handheld hybrid, someone just needs to implement it a bit better than the N-Gage did.
