I really don't get it.
I know Lost Odyssey is a superb game. I know it is a long and involved game. I also know that it is a challenging game. Then why haven't I started playing it yet?!?
The plan was set - Lost Odyssey was my game to play over the weekend - so what stopped this plan from going ahead?
If I put some thought into the situaton I think its a number of things.
-
A good RPG is a deep commitment - I put about 300 hours into
Obvilion, 15 hours into the first disk of
Blue Dragon and about 40 so far into Mass Effect. Let's not even think of the hours that I spent playing
Diablo II,
Keys to Maramon,
Bard's Tale 2 etc etc!! Even knowing the quality of
Lost Odyssey it still requires a commitment to try and see it through to the end regardless of difficulty, other game releases or story twists you don't agree with. No wonder I'm single

My attention span - as I said above with the commitment thing, you need to invest time and a great deal of it to get the most out of a RPG. Not only the time factor, but the time spent should be in great blocks. These games aren't the "load up for 30min and walk away" type, and that has been my gaming mood at the moment - play a little, then switch it up to something else.

Rainbow Six: Vegas - Not finishing the campaign on R6V has been annoying me for months and after visiting my best mate's place and picking up my copy I decided to get back in and finish it (currently on the top of the dam). It is still is one exceptional game and I'm looking forward to R6V2 even more now!
Speaking to my good mate and MyGen/Xbox.com AU forums' resident JRPG nut tranceVib, he is telling me that it's an amazing game and also one of the hardest JRPG's he has played in an awful long time. One boss taking a day to get past sounds to me like Ninja Gaiden level hard! He's deep into disk four so it shouldn't be long until we all get to read what should be an awesome review.
Adding to the "Pidgeo's RPG delay" is that I still have 1000+ hours of the Forgotten Realms Collection to get through! Let's be realistic though - they will be on the backburner for quite awhile.
Two games that will get a quick play regardless this week due to reading IGN's preview of the latest in the great series is Civilization II and IV. Civilization Revolution is looking like it could be another Firaxis masterpiece and this could be the game I am most looking forward to in 2008. That is a big call but the Civ franchise has been amazing and this looks like it will not disappoint. It seems a number of fellow Civ fans frequent the official Xbox AU foums so we might have to arrange some multiplayer Civ II and IV in anticipation of Revolution.
I was very happy to hear about the annoucement of the first downloadable content for Mass Effect. Currently my favourite game that I've played on the Xbox 360 so far, getting additional content, missions and storylines is only a good thing.
I have to update the FIFA 08 Championship page as Stu has made a huge fight back!! Pity the real Liverpool can't do the same hehehe.
